On the way back north from Uist I met up with Bob Wemyss at Scarista in south Harris. Quickly we scoped a White rumped Sandpiper in the fading afternoon light and then began the search for the day before ‘Semi P’. However, the next Calidris, only feet from the first, proved to be another White rump! After a bit of a wander over the saltings (note to self – don’t wear nubuck Timberland boots when doing this – it buggers them) I flushed the Semi P from my feet as it hid in a furrow. It flew around calling and went out among the flock of 100 Golden Plovers on the vast expanse of sand.
The White rumps were incredibly tame and allowed us stonking views. What else is out there?
