Madeiran Petrel off Lewis in 2005 – Scotland (and Britain’s) first?

Ok. With a couple of recent claims in SW England and some online discussion, which as ever is going well off track, I dug out the details of the bird which I had 6 years ago and got pics of. The article which was published at the time in Birding Scotland is attached in the three pages of PDF. Have a read and look at the photos.

No they are not frame fillers, but seawatching isn’t like that.

Why was it not formally submitted at the time? Then the situation and advice was that a Madeiran would not be acceptable in UK terms till information from Petrels Night and Day (Mullarney et al) had been sorted out i.e Castro’s versus Monteiro’s versus Grant’s and whatever.
