Late winter birds hang on

Three white winged gulls in a day has been hard to achieve all winter, so it was good to tick that box on Sunday. An adult at Habost Pool (formerly known as car wreck pools – but they seem to have tidied up now) with a 1w at Siadar and a 1w Iceland over Brue beach.

49 Black tailed Godwits at Thule Farm, Ness were joined by 120 Pinkfeet and 95 Barnacles and 7 Whoopers. The Mute Swans on Stiapabaht are nesting again while other nice things in Ness included 2w Little Gull at Dun Eisdean, White Wagtail on Tony’s newly mowed lawn and Chiffchaff at Lionel. Harbour Porpoise and the first Minkie Whale of the year were offshore.

Further south 9 Brent’s off Barvas were good, but even better was the female Pochard unexpectedly flushed from RSPB Loch na Muilne.
