Snow Bunting

With sleety snow on the window tonight I remembered I hadn’t sorted my Snow Bunting photos out from a showy bird at Barvas machair at the weekend.

We get two sub-species – ‘nivalis’ which is pretty much across the whole Arctic and ‘insulae’ that breeds in Iceland and Scotland. I don’t think you can tell them apart in this plumage – first year male – but happy to be told otherwise.
