Thawing out

The thaw kicks in and this Greenshank might have somewhere to go now. It looked rather bemused perched on a rock surrounded by ice. Meantime the effects of the big freeze still remain with passerines still struggling to survive. Ten Goldfinches in Bragar today and a gang of a dozen Twite searched for seeds while I searched in vain to find any Greenland white-fronted Geese.

Loch Barvas is one of the most consistent white-winged gull sites, especially as Stornoway Harbour has lost its edge with the decline in white fish landings. Today two first-year Glaucous and a fine adult joined the 70 Great black backed Gulls on the west side loch.
