Swan Lake is frozen

A few days on the Uists in the big freeze found most lochs as solid as concrete and most birds birds having departed to the open sea. Loch Bee however had a large group of Mute Swans, with good numbers of Wigeon, Tufties a few Scaup and a lone Coot trying hard to keep some open water available.

A Water Rail near Horgabost on Friday was noteworthy – presumably frozen out from the mainland.
