Mixed up geese

I tried to hide from Waxwings over the weekend, but inevitably failed – a duo in Brue and one in Shawbost saw to that.
Seawatching was interesting with 9 Great Northern Divers coming down the coast on Sunday plus 5 Scaup. Another Scaup was at RSPB Loch na Muilne at Arnol. Nearby I could only find 4 Greenland White-fronted Geese in the favoured fields. The goose tally also had Barnacle (Brue), Pinkfoot (several singles) and Canada’s at Garynahyne. One bird was clearly a hybrid – presumably a Greylag adding to the genes.
An interesting record however came from the Arnol fishfarm. A Dipper has been taking advantage of the fish food and feeding on the edge of the ponds full of young salmon. I have once seen a Dipper on this water system before but wonder if autumnal wandering rather than resident bird is more likely the case.
