Some interesting work being undertaken on Shetland which adds to the “Great Eider Debate”. In recent years we have seen several birds on Lewis which suggest they are from a northern population. The taxonomy and idebntification of teh Eider complex can be tricky, and this new paper about Shetland birds rekindles an old arguement.

Guess the question is – what are Hebridean breeders. There is a PhD in there for somebody!
