As well as the drift migrants it was so calm it was always going to be good for looking at the sea. A dozen Basking Sharks were rather nice as was a pod of Harbour Porpoises and a couple of Minkie Whales. Surprise though was the passage of Storm Petrels. I tallied 91 in just over 2 hours as well as a Sooty Shearwater, 80 Puffins, 112 Manx Shearwaters and oodles of Gannets. Such numbers of Storm Petrels off the Butt was unexpected as were the three past Port of Ness (with apologies to Tony Marr – Tony you would have got them on your garden list!)
On the way home three Whoopers at Fivepenny complemented the pair of Mute Swans on Loch Stiapabhat with their cygnet as well as a White-tailed and three Golden Eagles.
